How to Stay Motivated?

This post has been updated at 16/08/2011.

One of the key difference between successful and unsuccessful people is in their motivation. I used to lack motivation time to time, but in last months my motivation increased rapidly. And I didn't have to put much of extra effort to it!

#1 The people

If you can, try to attend some events in whatever you do. Meeting like-minded people is the best way how to stay motivated. Follow people in your specialisation and your city on Twitter and you'll get a lot of interesting tips for great events. If you like start-ups, you should check StartupDigest.com, they send weekly digests about upcoming events, it's very helpful!

#2 Book-reading ritual

For me, the second most important thing is to read books ... regularly. Until recently I didn't read any books at all, I read some blogs, but now I think that you shouldn't read only blogs. A blog post is always rather shallow, whereas book can go much deeper, have more examples. I'd like to thank @martincik for getting me excited about reading and him and Martin Zeman for recommending me some good books.

There's no better start of a day then getting up 30 minutes earlier and read a book! I'm going to share my reading list, if you don't know what to read, check something by Seth Godin, Jason Fried or Gary Vaynerchuk.

#3 Podcasts and audiobooks

Audiobooks can save a lot of time. You can listen them on your journey to the office and you can listen them in less time than you'd read the whole book. I can certainly recommend them. I buy all of them on iTunes store or you can check Audible.com.

Great start-upy podcast is Mixergy.com (iTunes link). Andrew interviews people such as David Heinemeier Hansson, Tim Ferriss or Guy Kawasaki. The podcast is so good because Andrew asks really good questions.
