Start-Ups As a Life Philosophy
This post has been updated at 10/07/2011.
Start-ups are much more than just a way how to make money: it's a life philosophy. It's about freedom, doing useful things for the people, about making connections and about continuous personal growth.
Disclaimer: I really hope writing this post is absolutely pointless and everyone tells me "of course it's like that, every one knows that", but I haven't seen any similar post, so I think it's useful to write it down.
For me, start-ups are all about freedom. Obviously building them is pretty lucrative, but that really isn't the point. Not the main one at least. For me it's more about being creative, doing interesting and useful things, making amazing people connections and generally making the world a better place, for me and for everyone else.
I'd do start-ups even if there'd be no money in it, for the same reason for which I code OSS: because I like doing it and I want to do something useful. I started my own start-up and invested my own money without having a clue if it will pay off or not.
And the money, yes, well I lied a bit: it is about money. But not in the "I want a lot of money" way, but in the "I have constant flow of money to cover my basic needs without going to any job" way. And that's great, to buy your own time.
